Why Bookla
The booking platform that doesn't charge you for growing.
I run a small web agency in Toronto. For five years I've built websites for spas, restaurants, and clinics — and every single one of them uses a booking platform that charges them more as they grow, sells their customer list to competitors, or both. Last year I watched a client lose a $1,200/month margin to per-staff fees. So I started building this. If you're a spa owner reading this, it's for you.
Who this is for
Built for the owner who knows every regular by name.
Independent beauty and wellness businesses in Canada: spas, nail studios, massage clinics, lash bars, medispas. Places where the owner knows most of their regulars by name.
Businesses that have outgrown the paper appointment book but resent paying $30/staff/month to a platform that turns around and markets to their customers.
Owners who want to own their booking page, their customer data, and their brand — without hiring a developer.
Who this is NOT for
We'd rather be honest upfront.
If you need inventory management, integrated point-of-sale, or a customer marketplace that sends you new clients, we're not the right fit yet.
If you have 50+ locations with complex franchise billing requirements, we're not there yet either.
We'd rather be honest about this upfront than sell you something and disappoint you three months in.
What we won't build
Every feature has a cost.
Every feature has a cost — not just engineering time, but complexity that creeps into every future decision. We track things honestly:
- Gift cards — Phase 3 at earliest. The financial reconciliation is non-trivial to do right.
- Loyalty points — Phase 3. We want to build it properly, not slap a badge system on top.
- SMS reminders — Phase 2. Email first; SMS adds carrier costs and compliance overhead we'll handle properly.
- Native mobile app — maybe Phase 4. The web embed works well; we won't ship an app just to say we have one.
Phase numbers are estimates, not promises. They change as we learn from real customers.
Canadian-hosted
Your data stays in Canada.
Your data lives on Supabase's ca-central-1 region — physically in Canada, subject to Canadian jurisdiction.
We comply with PIPEDA. Your customer records — names, emails, phone numbers, appointment history — are not shared with third parties for advertising or profiling.
If you operate under Quebec's Law 25, the Canadian hosting and data residency helps. We're not your privacy counsel, but we built the infrastructure to not make it harder.
What happens if we shut down
No lock-in. No proprietary format.
You get a full data export: customers, appointments, staff records, in CSV format. No hoops.
We commit to 90 days' notice before any shutdown. That gives you time to migrate to another system without losing your history.
No lock-in. No proprietary format. If we fail, you lose a tool — not your business.
